Hi everyone
I've seen the letter from the NMC (in the members section) suggesting that as Independent Prescribers (IP's) we can prescribe Buccal Midazolam. However, I was under the impression that as IP's, we were always allowed to do this. My understanding is that it is the unlicensed nature of Epistatus that is the problem.
At present this hasn't changed but I'm aware that hopefully by the end of the year the law will allow IP's to prescribe unlicensed medication. This has come about from the practice of mixing medication in realms such as palliative care. A proposal has been accepted by ministers but no alteration to the law has been made as yet.
Unlicensed medication must be prescribed under the supplementary prescribing process.
Is this everyones understanding or have i got the completely wrong end of the stick?
